Leigh McCormack (founder of Platypus), recently authored a whitepaper titled: Accelerate Equity: The Time-Critical Data Imperative for Healthcare

It's a must-read for anyone interested in the use of data to drive decision-making in healthcare.

Everyone should care about this. AI is discriminatory by design. While AI is just math + computer science, it inherits our human subjectivity, whether in design, training data, inappropriate methods, or improper deployment/adoption. We can certainly work to limit that discrimination with diverse data, inclusive design, and the appropriate math. Until then (and on a large enough scale), we only perpetuate the problem.

The stakes are high and growing. According to a Deloitte study, the current cost of health inequities is $320B and will grow to $1T by 2040 if left unaddressed. Social factors account for 60% of variation in health outcomes, yet social factors only account for 10% of the health data we are using to make decisions.
